W7 non-VLC free player with PGS subtitle support? I know VLC player has PGS and XSub support. I use it on Vista64. But the last 1/2 dozen releases, it crashes on Windows 7 as soon as I touch it. So I can't use it. Even reinstalling an old version that used to work, won't work.
Anyone know another free player that can play .m2ts and .mkv with PGS and optionally XSub support for Windows Seven? | My System Specs |

Sorry to hear about the problem with VLC, but it is not inherent with Windows 7, because I use it without any issues on 2 rigs both running Windows 7 x64. If reinstalling didn't fix the problem, I would suspect that something else is involved, but have no idea of what. Since it may be some other app, have you tried using it on a clean boot or Safe Mode? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number DIY OS W7x64 Pro, SuSe 12.1/** W7 x64 Pro, XP MCE CPU Phenom II 1090T w/Noctua NH-D14 /**4400+ X2 w/CM Hyper TX 3 Motherboard ASRock 890FX Deluxe 4/**A8N-SLI Memory 2 x 2GB Patriot PGS34g1600LLKA/**4x1GB Corsair VS Graphics Card EVGA GTX460 SC/**EVGA 8800GTS Sound Card Asus Xonar D2X/**Xonar D1 Monitor(s) Displays Acer X233H, Dell E152FPc /**LG M237-WD Screen Resolution 1920x1080 & 1024x768/**1980x1080 Keyboard Logitech Media USB/**Saitek Eclipse Mouse Cordless Trackman Wheel/**Ditto PSU CM RS600 w/ APC BX1000G/**Antec 500 TP w/ APC BX1000 Case HAF922/**Antec 1040IIB Cooling 3x200mm, 1x140 and 1x120mm/**5x80mm fans Hard Drives WDC 2TB, 1.5TB, 1TB, 500GB,Seagate 500GB , Maxtor 80GB /**500GB Seagate & WDC 1TB Black Internet Speed 3.3Mbps Other Info SB 560 5.1 w/ Sennheiser RS140/**Creative T20 speakers, Dvico FusionHDTV7 Gold RT, Cisco E3000, HP 5510V AIO, Linksys E3000, Belkin F5U237 hub and **F5D8055 adapter

Something I plan on trying (but have not done yet) is converting the files to another file type that WMP can play with FormatFactory. I don't know if it will work or not. I am currently trying to download a .mkv, but its pretty big so it might take a while. If you want to try it first, feel free to do so and see what happens. If you want to wait, I will report on my own results as seen as I get around to it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Toshiba P775-S7100 OS Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit CPU Intel Core i5-2450M @2.5 GHz Memory 6 GB DDR3 1333MHz Graphics Card Intel HD 3000 Monitor(s) Displays Built-in 17.3" LED; 22" Insignia NS-L22Q-10A Screen Resolution 1600x900; 1360x768 Hard Drives 750 GB Hitachi

Maybe this will help: MKVMania
I also Googled and found returns that indicate that MPCHC will play Blu Ray, so I would assume that it would display .m2ts subtitles also, but have not personally tried it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number DIY OS W7x64 Pro, SuSe 12.1/** W7 x64 Pro, XP MCE CPU Phenom II 1090T w/Noctua NH-D14 /**4400+ X2 w/CM Hyper TX 3 Motherboard ASRock 890FX Deluxe 4/**A8N-SLI Memory 2 x 2GB Patriot PGS34g1600LLKA/**4x1GB Corsair VS Graphics Card EVGA GTX460 SC/**EVGA 8800GTS Sound Card Asus Xonar D2X/**Xonar D1 Monitor(s) Displays Acer X233H, Dell E152FPc /**LG M237-WD Screen Resolution 1920x1080 & 1024x768/**1980x1080 Keyboard Logitech Media USB/**Saitek Eclipse Mouse Cordless Trackman Wheel/**Ditto PSU CM RS600 w/ APC BX1000G/**Antec 500 TP w/ APC BX1000 Case HAF922/**Antec 1040IIB Cooling 3x200mm, 1x140 and 1x120mm/**5x80mm fans Hard Drives WDC 2TB, 1.5TB, 1TB, 500GB,Seagate 500GB , Maxtor 80GB /**500GB Seagate & WDC 1TB Black Internet Speed 3.3Mbps Other Info SB 560 5.1 w/ Sennheiser RS140/**Creative T20 speakers, Dvico FusionHDTV7 Gold RT, Cisco E3000, HP 5510V AIO, Linksys E3000, Belkin F5U237 hub and **F5D8055 adapter

Just updating to say that I successfully converted a .mkv file to a .avi file and it works perfectly in Windows Media Player. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Toshiba P775-S7100 OS Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit CPU Intel Core i5-2450M @2.5 GHz Memory 6 GB DDR3 1333MHz Graphics Card Intel HD 3000 Monitor(s) Displays Built-in 17.3" LED; 22" Insignia NS-L22Q-10A Screen Resolution 1600x900; 1360x768 Hard Drives 750 GB Hitachi

Since it may be some other app, have you tried using it on a clean boot or Safe Mode? It worked for months in Windows 7 so it's pretty weird. Especially since the version that worked won't work on reinstall. It's like as soon as I touch it something sends a WM_CLOSE message to the window.
Thanks for the input on MkvMania but I use BD Rebuilder heavily and I have to use the versions of FFDShow and Matroska splitter compatible with it. That's the whole reason I want to be able to look at the PGS subs.
Splash Lite player plays .mkv very well but there's no PGS subs support. You have to spend $20 for the Pro version. I don't play whole movies on my PC. So I don't want to spend for a player just to test sample a video.
There were some ports of Linux type players but the controls are so foreign, and they insist on using black on black Gui so there's just about zero chance of figuring out how to use them. It's really annoying this user interface stuff is considered acceptable. Might as well have command line controls if you can't see the buttons on the Gui. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Media Center OS Windows 7 32 bit CPU AMD 5200+ dual core Memory 2 GB Graphics Card NVidia GeForce 6150SE 128 MB Monitor(s) Displays CRT Screen Resolution 1280x1024 Keyboard PS/2 Mouse PS/2 Wheel Mouse Hard Drives 500 GB Sata internal :
