Windows 7: Error 1722 (and Paint.net Error 1603) Can't Uninstall/Update Paint.net

Right click on My computer and go to properties look under system type to see if u have 32bit or 64bit this will determine what version of trustedInstaller to use

1.Restart your computer and pres F8 repeativly until u get to the windows advance menu, Use your arrow keys to move to "Safe Mode with networking" and press your Enter key

2.Go to start type in cmd in search and run it as admin now type in
takeown /f C:\Windows\Servicing\ hit enter

next type in:
cacls C:\Windows\Servicing /G username:F change username to your account name

example:
cacls C:\Windows\Servicing /G mike:F


3.Go to My computer--> C drive-->windows--> servicing
Drag and drop the TrustedInstaller.exe 32 bit or 64 bit in the servicing folder



4.Right click on the TrustedInstaller go to properties--Security tab-->edit-->add-->under "enter the objects names" type NT SERVICE\TrustedInstaller
click check names then hit ok

now under groups or user names select trusted installer and check all the permissions hit ok the hit ok again
RESTART YOUR COMPUTER

5.now type in services.msc in search or run open it and find TrustedInstaller right cllick it and go to properties and set the start up type to manual hit apply then ok now on the left side it has a discription click on start the service

I'm sure glad there are forums out there because I'm at a loss on this thus far.

Paint.net has an update available to 3.5.6 from 3.5.5. When I go to install the new version part of that process is uninstalling the old version. It seems to error out at this point and gives me the error 1603, however, through research I've found a way to provide more specific details by looking at the PdnMsiInstall file at it says...
I've tried several things that Paint.net forums suggests as well as google my butt off, but nothing seems to work.

I have tried

• disabling my anti-virus and firewall
• repairing .net framework
• uninstalling and reinstalling .net framework 4 client profile
• repairing paint.net (errors out)
• Making sure the 'Windows Modulur Installer' is set to manual, not disabled
• re-registering msi installer
• maybe some others...

But I'm timid to try it out... typical instructions quoted here...
