WinZip I think Windows 7 Pro may have an inbuilt zip facility. If I install WinZip Pro will I cause any problems? Also do I need WinZip to handle simple compression and uncompression or will Windows t do the job?

The inbuilt extraction utility in Windows 7 is very basic, E.g. it cant handle .iso and .rar files. Installing winzip if you already have a license is a good idea otherwise there are free utilities like 7zip available which are excellent. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Too many to describe... I use 7zip. Opens virtually everything including vhds, wims....
But I also use Izarc. Strangley 7zip doesn't open spanned zips which a lot of 3rd party backup programs use yet the basic windows zip utility and Izarc do! | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Own build (+ Recased Acer Aspire x1800) OS Windows 7x64 Home Premium SP1 x 2 CPU Intel i7 2600k Motherboard ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe Memory G.Skill Ripjaws (DDR3-1600) 2x4GB Graphics Card Nvidia GeForce GTS 450; Intel HD Graphics 3000(GT2+) Monitor(s) Displays Dell Ultrasharp IPS panel U2311H, Samsung SyncMaster P2350 Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech MK520 (wireless) Mouse Logitech MK520 PSU Seasonic M12II 520W Case Lian Li Lancool PC-K60 Cooling Case: 1x120mm, 3x140mm CPU: Hyper 212+ Hard Drives Crucial M4 128GB (0309), Seagates 1TB Barracuda ST31000528AS + Internet Speed 6-7 Mbps Other Info Audio: Logitech Z523 2.1 |

I believe you also have to pay for Winrar and doesn't look to offer anything over the free and popular 7-zip and Izarc. for a description and link see the forums free program list FREE Great Programs for Windows 7
Be warned Izarc is around a massive 10MB and 7-zip 4MB. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Own build (+ Recased Acer Aspire x1800) OS Windows 7x64 Home Premium SP1 x 2 CPU Intel i7 2600k Motherboard ASUS P8Z68 Deluxe Memory G.Skill Ripjaws (DDR3-1600) 2x4GB Graphics Card Nvidia GeForce GTS 450; Intel HD Graphics 3000(GT2+) Monitor(s) Displays Dell Ultrasharp IPS panel U2311H, Samsung SyncMaster P2350 Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech MK520 (wireless) Mouse Logitech MK520 PSU Seasonic M12II 520W Case Lian Li Lancool PC-K60 Cooling Case: 1x120mm, 3x140mm CPU: Hyper 212+ Hard Drives Crucial M4 128GB (0309), Seagates 1TB Barracuda ST31000528AS + Internet Speed 6-7 Mbps Other Info Audio: Logitech Z523 2.1 |

Be warned Izarc is around a massive 10MB and 7-zip 4MB. 7-zip has limited support for advanced features compared to the paid products, but its a good alternative for free users | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Win7 Ultimate SP1 x64 / Windows 8 CP / Android CPU Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 OC'd 3.08GHz Motherboard Asus Rampage formula LGA775 Memory 8GB DDR2 900Mhz Graphics Card Zotac GTX 460OC 2GB GDDR5/Asus EN9600GT 1GB DDR3 PhyX Sound Card Supreme FX2 Monitor(s) Displays AOC 22' Screen Resolution 1680x1050 Keyboard Prolink keyboard Mouse Prolink optical mouse PSU Cooler Master GX 650W Cooling Cooler Master V6 + 3X fans Hard Drives 3X500GB hitachi, 2TB internal, 500GB Seagate FreeAgent, 640GB Samsung Internet Speed 1MiB/s Other Info 5.1 System + 2.1 System |

I'm a 7zip user as well. I don't have a need to pay for either WinRAR or WinZIP. While I understand the trials of these more or less last forever, in honoring the license of the product, I choose to not use them.
But to answer your question, you can load whatever zip utility you want and it won't interfere or break anything with the built-in tools. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self-Built in July 2009 OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Intel Q9550 2.83Ghz OC'd to 3.40Ghz Motherboard Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3R rev. 1.1, F12 BIOS Memory 8GB G.Skill PI DDR2-800, 4-4-4-12 timings Graphics Card EVGA 1280MB Nvidia GeForce GTX570 Sound Card Realtek ALC899A 8 channel onboard audio Monitor(s) Displays 23" Acer x233H Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard ABS M1 Mechanical Mouse Logitech G9 Laser Mouse PSU Corsair 620HX modular Case Antec P182 Cooling stock Hard Drives Intel X25-M 80GB Gen 2 SSD
