whats a good Windows calendar program...?

Now that Win 7 doesn't come with a calendar apparently, can I download one from somewhere on the Microsoft website?

I'm not looking for a bells and whistles one, just a one that reminds me a week before special birthdays that I have to buy a present!

Isn't there a microsoft one already?, or would you recommend a freeware one?

Do you have Outlook? If not, Windows Live Mail has a calendar built-in. There may be Gadgets that pull from either calendar as well. You have hundreds of options.

I've been using UK's Kalender for a long time, mainly as a reminder program though. Does what I need and it's free.

I use Sunbird. Only bad thing is the time selection is 24 hr clock. Otherwise, does everything I need it to do and it's an attractive program.

I was using Sunbird. The nice thing about the Vista calendar, if you have Ultimate edition, it doesn't have to be running to pop up the notice. It uses the task scheduler just by checking "reminders should show if Windows Calendar is not running" in options. (Note that if you have Home Premium edition it will allow you to check this option but nothing will happen. No error msg, just no notice either.. but it seems to work fine in Ultimate.)

Another thing on Sunbird, I found it minimizes to tray much better using WinTray:

The addon or other method that's designed for it had flaky side-effects, at least when I tried it. There may have been updates since then though. Sunbird is fine but if I don't have to I hate to run a reminder program all the time just in case it needs to pop up a notice.

I just installed UK Kalendar, and I like it too. Does what I want (schedules appointments, defines recurrence, warns you n minutes/hours/days before due). Easy to use, simple with no extra folderol, and its FREE!
