Gimp "for Windows" seems to be a good program that could be a rival for the paid software, Adobe Photoshop... for the few that can afford it.
Have any of you all tried it?
I want to run legal software... but Adobe Photoshop comes at such a price. Will the newest GIMP give/offer a good substitute?
I've been using Gimp for 5 years or more. First on XP and now on Windows 7 Pro X64. Works great and has more capability than I can ever use.
Another one you may want to look at is Paint.NET. I've used Gimp and PDN and use PDN 90% of the time. Actually. it's just a matter of preference.

The Gimp 2 comes now in two flavors...x32bits & x64bits.
I have the x64 flavor on my machine since one year (started with v2.6.8) and is stable.
There's a beta version v2.7.1 for both x32 & x64.
Have used both and prefer Gimp but PDN is also great.
Yes, the GIMP is first class. It is not the same as Photoshop, but you can do a very great deal with it, and there is nothing else even nearly as good for free!. It is not easy to get it set up exactly as you want it on Windows. If you try it, don't get the 64 BIT version. It works fine by itself, but many of the available add-ons and plugins wont. Get the latest 32 BIT version (2.6), and the paint studio add-on;
