    cant install to program files

    Hi there,

Im an XP user, never went over to vista but thought id give win7 a go while it was free.

    Im using RC1 build 7100.

The problem im having is that it wont bloody let me install programs into program files folder because i do not have enough privilages, which sounds silly if im supposed to be system admin. Ive tried running as administrator which seems to work now and again but still i cant install half the things i want that are supposed to be win7 compatible.

Hey thanks for the info. there a couple of things i need to ask. when installing an app where does it try to install it automatically? Have you moved a disk or changed anything after win 7 install? What does event log say abt the problem?

There is a seperate group besides admins in win 7 called trusted installers. That a system group that does the actual install of privledged apps. what kind of apps will not install?

    More info please

usual install path is C:\program files\app name

the programs that worked i have just remembered i installed to my user folder, except outpost security which has just dumped its contents into program files without creating any subfolders and some realtek drivers.

    Failed Apps:
Windows Live sign in assistant - no run as admin available
Adobe Reader 9.1 - error 1304 insufficient privilages
    windows live - messenger/writer/photo/mail etc
cc cleaner - latest / fails when it attempts to use something its installed from program files
    Firefox 3 beta 5 - installed to user/folder
    isodisk - installed to user/folder

trusted installer only had list folder contents set, i tried to add more read/write privilages but got alot of errors saying i didnt have access to do so, although apparently it now has these abilitys ... but still cant install.
