    Universal Windows Installer

    Hello,

First time posting here and appreciate the great info here. I'm running windows 7 home prem x64 on a HP laptop.

A bit of history. When I bought this I used laplink to transfer several docs and programs. In doing that Java got corrupted and I can't install it for the life of me but I can deal with it since most websites work but some don't.

More importantly the windows installer mostly works but sometimes doesn't. Most recently while trying to install the canon software which I like I get the error: "Windows Universal Installer has stopped working" This happens about half way through the install and although the program is installed enough to open it doesn't recognize the camera and speaking with Canon tech support they had me do the sfc /scannow but it didn't help. I've also tried unregistering the installer but to no avail.

I'm hoping someone can guide me to the right resource or direct me how to manually install the canon software without the windows installer if at all possible. Very frustrating! gRRRRRR!

    Thanks in advance,
    Mic

    Welcome
Try using this administrator to install
Built-in Administrator Account - Enable or Disable[2]=User Accounts
    If that does not work
Use the above administrator and then
Download software to be installed to desktop then install in safe mode.
    Hope it works.

You first need to remove all old versions of Java - JavaRa will do this:
    Software « RaProducts

    1. Download JavaRa and save the *.zip to your Desktop.
Then unzip it on the Desktop and double-click the JavaRa.exe.

    2.
    Click Remove Older Versions.

Once that is complete, you should be able to install Java. :)

Thank you all for your help. I'm not sure but I don't think my laptop is quite right. I tried the javara to remove java and then reinstalled it but still nothing! I also downloaded the Uniblue registry fixer but to know avail. Still can't install the software. Any other thoughts out there? About ready to throw this laptop into the snowbank and start from scratch... GRRRRRR!
