    CDBurnerXP Virus

I have downloaded CDBurnerXP (latest version) from three different sources including downloads.com and every one of them shows a virus using Microsoft Security Essentials.

Has anyone else ran into this problem? Is there a safe place to download CDBurnerXP?

    Thank You

Probably just a false positive. They do happen with almost any AV.

Or maybe not. what malware is MSE reporting?

    Go to the official site.

    CDBurnerXP: Downloads

Click on "More download options" for 64bit version and others.

    Thanks for the replys.

I went to the Official Site and downloaded CDBurnerXP. MSE still says it has a virus:

    Adware:Win32/OpenCandy

I did Google about a virus in CDBurnerXP and it seems I am not the only one having this issue. The virus is being detected by not only MSE but other AVs as well. It is strange that this situation has not been corrected by the supplier of CDBurnerXP.

I happened to find an older version of CDBurnerXP on a DVD that I had used before and have installed. It did NOT show a virus. I have not used it yet but I expect it to work fine. If not I will let you know.

On the official site if you click on "More download options" you can download a version without "Open Candy".

ForeFront Security detects it too, program is very much similar to MSE though.....and my system is working fine w/ the latest version of CDBurnerXP installed.

I think it's good that MSE finds this stuff and flags it. It's all this included "adware" stuff that drives me nuts. I've been using IMGburn for a couple of years now over CDBurnerXP. At least there are alternatives out there.

I use Imgburn for anything DVD and CD data discs. For CD audio I like Burrrn portable:

Download Portable Burrrn 1.14 Beta 2 Free - The portable version of the Burrrn audio cd burner - Softpedia

It has autoconvert of .flac like CDBurnerXP does but is just simpler.
The last version of Burrrn with the installer seems to have a bug where the log shows duplicate lines for each entry in Vista. The portable version someone must have fixed the bug before the software was abandoned. I do use CDBurnerXP sometimes for printing the covers.
