Announcing: 7stacks - stacks for 7 (freeware)

Like JuanDeaux, I did not like the taskbar toolbars in Windows 7; found the taskbar toolbars too slow to propagate when clicked on. 7 Stacks, RocketDock, and ObjectDock are much faster. Toolbars are just SO annoying in their slowness...sorta like Opera browser vs Internet Explorer. ;) I don't know how the coders at Microsoft can be so bad.
Anyway, the search in Windows 7 has been confusing to me from day one and never seems to find stuff. I switched to Everything search engine the first week I installed Windows 7. It searches ALL your drives and finds everything almost instantly.
I also use Cathy to search all my backup cd's and drives on my laptop, desktop, and usb drives. I can find an old file no matter WHERE it is. It is fast and easy to use.
Both of these are freeware.

I tried 7Stacks for a bit. But issues made me look for something similar. I use RocketDock so I noticed StandAlone Stacks 2 which uses the same stack library as RD. I'm pretty happy with it. I have a machine with W7 and one with Vista. By using SAS2 I get the same behavior on both PCs.

The only side-effect I noticed on W7 is sometimes a program will get a paper icon in the stack instead of the icon from the exe. When you go in properties and Change Icon it shows the correct icon but it won't show in the stack. Seems like it happens one out of 10. My work-around is to use an icon editor to pull the icon from the exe and add it to a folder under Documents. Then when I use Change Icon to use that icon, it "sticks." On Vista it seems to work normally.
MA, are you still using StandAlone? I have a question for you - thank you.

Edit : Due to the age of this post I will pm you regarding this.

I have been trying out StandaloneStack 2, along with 7Stacks and I kind of like it. However, in Task Manager I notice that for each SaS instance (i.e. each stack shortcut) a process is created and remains running. With the 7Stacks a process is created but is ended once the stack pop-up closes. Can you explain to me this behavior and if one or the other is a concern for me?

Edit : Due to the age of this post I will pm you regarding this.

I was using Stand Alone Stacks 2 on both Vista and W7. But unfortunately last February I was evicted. I was taking care of a relative with a nerve disease. The short version is medical problems often bankrupt people. I just mention it because due to taking care of the person I had to be home all the time. Therefore no income. I had to give up both my desktop machines as I could only take what I could carry. Fortunately for me a kind person on Vista Forums purchased a Laptop running W8 for me. I really can't recall the details of SAS or why it may use multiple processes. I do remember, as posted above, that is uses the Stacks DLL from RocketDock. That may provide a clue.

Edit: since W8 has a Start Screen I think I may forgo using RocketDock as 3 machines in a row setting it up it just feels old doing it that way. Plus I don't have the other machines to look at or copy from. I may just use a combination of FARR launcher, Start Screen, Everythiing Search and Taskbar Jump Lists to do stuff.

Thank you. Hopefully someone will chime in with the info you want. It seems like 10 years ago and I just can't recall anything particular about using the stacks. I wish I could be more help. :)

OK - it has been a long time. Anyways I hope someone around here can help. An earlier reply here had this statement :

" Run SevenStacks0.exe to see a list of command line parameters "

Could someone show me how to do this? Best would be if someone can simply post a screen. thank you
