Windows 7: Windows explorer problem

Hello everyone



My friend who is running win 7 64bit has found that when he types internet explorer into the search dialogue box on the lower left of screen. Explorer doesn't find it? It doesnt find the internet folder or the .exe file?

It seems to find everything else.
I asked him to look at the folder properties and he said that it was read only,

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

BTW he has a 2 month old sony laptop

One reason that the search won't find Internet Explorer is that hidden/system files are not displayed.
To change that, you will need to go into control panel and folder options, look at view, the boxes for
display file extensions for known types, hidden system files and protected system files should be unchecked.

This way, all the files can be searched in the search panel. I always makes sure that this is done the first time I get into a machine. Also I like to look at control panel with small icons instead of the few broad categories that it initially shows.

i don't think the internet explorer exe is a hidden system file - even if it was, windows search should still find any shortcuts to it in the start-menu, which is indexed by default.

thinktank24, has your friend edited his start-menu in any way, deleting shorcuts, including ie?

Yes i agree with you, the search should have found internet explorer shortcut or .exe file.
I am confused to report that he seemingly solved the problem by by running a regisrtry cleaner third party prog. So he is happy now, but i have no idea why that would have fixed his 'search' problem?
