    ITunes

I have just installed SP1 for Windows 7 x64 now Itunes will not work. It loads up but then just freezes. Does anyone else have the same problem and is there a work around?

I don't know exactly what you use Itunes for or what version you use, but I can tell you that version 4.9, which is at least 6 years old, works fine for my purposes on Windows 7 64-bit, with SP 1.

My iTunes works perfectly if this is happening repeatedly than an uninstall/reinstall of iTunes should fix your issue.

Glad to hear a re-install solved your problem. I had the exact same symptoms once except the offending program was google earth which a re-install fixed.

Hmmmm....... That's pretty impressive considering version 7.4.0 on up was basically designed with support for Vista and Windows 7 - meaning anything below that didn't work or was problematic under the OS's I listed - Old Version of iTunes Download - OldApps.com

    4.9 didn't even support 64-bit OS's.... according to Apple - Old Version of iTunes 4.9 Download - OldApps.com

Yeah, I guess it is unusual.

I don't have the slightest reason to change it. All I hear about newer versions is bloat and bitching. My C:\Program Files\ITunes folder is 13 MB.

I use it for exactly one purpose: playback of mp3 files from PC via headphones or via a wired connection from my sound card to my home stereo. I don't allow it to have any control over my mp3 library (that can be turned off in the configuration). All it can do is play back.

    Period.

I manually reload my library every few weeks as I acquire more mp3s. Takes under 10 minutes.

Otherwise, I have an Apple-free household: no Ipods, no Ipads, no Iyomamas, etc. No "syncing", no portable devices of any brand.

Well I've used every version from 2004 on up to now and have no complaints about any "bloatware" or major performance issues.

I guess an 80mb file on todays system's contains a ton of "bloatware"

And apparently those check boxes to not install stuff not needed must be grayed out.

    My two cents.

All I meant was what is shown below in the advanced tab of configuration at edit/preferences/advanced. I don't grant it any control over my library other than playback.

I have a 21,000 tune Itunes library, but my "Itunes" folder within my user folder is empty.

I've turned off nearly all possible switches in the config. The only thing I can't get rid of is the "podcasts" playlist icon.
