Compressing Files automatically named after the first files name ?

Hi,

i wonder if someone can help me with a problem I have. What I have is a folder full of many files, couple of thousands. These files are unpacked Map files from a Computer game. Each map has several files it needs to work. These files are all named the same (for each map), just the extension is different.

Now what I need is to pack them up, map by map. Problem is, when I use regular packing tools, mark all the files of one map and do right click and want to create an archive of them, with either WinRAR or 7ZIP (probably others as well), it only gives me the choice to either choose my own name of the archive, which means I would have to do that a couple hundred times for all those files, or it automatically gives me the name of the folder they are in as a pre-chosen name for the archive.

But all that would leave me only by typing each time an archive name by hand, which as I said would take me too long with so many files. What I need is that the pre-chosen name is taken from the original file name.

Example:

Folder Name -> TEST FOLDER

example files for creating an archive: (zip,rar,7z)
  • this_is_a_test.npj
  • this_is_a_test.pcx
  • this_is_a_test.wac
  • this_is_a_test.bms

These files marked with the mouse and then right-click, the name thats offered from the compression tool is:

Test Folder.zip (which is what I don't want!)

Wanted Result:

this_is_a_test.zip (or rar,7z)

That way, dealing with a couple thousand of files, i at least only have to mark them, right click and can take the name that the original files have. Instead of everytime typing the archive name by hand. For a few files that wouldn't be an issue, for a couple of thousands it is.

Any idea about that ?
