How can I 'disassociate' a .MSP file ?

I'm trying to run a valid download to update a soft synth by Steinberg called 'Halion Sonic'. Its extension is .msp. When I tried to execute it my PhotoPlus program opened (?!?!) and of course couldn't 'see' it. I've been into the Windows 'associate with' window but don't know what to associate it with. Ideally, I don't it associating with anything - I just want it to run.

Have you tried associating with the Steinberg synth program?

The update has the .msp extension because that directs it to the Windows installer. The installed program must have an .exe though. Find the .exe in Program files ( C:\Program Files) and make a shortcut of it or pin it to the start menu or taskbar. Then you can start it from there.

I used the registry hack utility on this other thread and it worked!
Default File Type Associations - Restore

Windows should have an equivalent option, i.e to disassociate a file type.

    Thanks
