Windows Live File system

I have been using Windows Live File system to burn some Word files to disk.
I know I can load these disks and edit the files and any changes will be saved.
I would like to know that if I oppened these files and edited them not using the disk would I still be able to add any editing I done back to the disk?

Thanks
jack
