First, make sure that you've uninstalled the wrong (XP) drivers, if the old driver CD actually installed anything.

This link is as simple as I can make it: only one "download" button.

HP Color LaserJet 1600 Printer*-* HP Color LaserJet Plug and Play Package - HP Business Support Center

It's about a 7MB download. Follow the installation instructions there:

Close any software programs running on your computer.
  1. Click the Download only button and save this file.
  2. Double click on the downloaded file. The self-extracting process will appear.
  3. Click to accept the terms in the license agreement. Click Next.
  4. Driver installation begins. Driver files are pre-installed during this process.
  5. A screen pops up to prompt to connect the USB cable. Insert the USB cable.
  6. Device is connected, waiting for PnP to finish installing driver.
  7. Click Finish to complete software installation.
I hope that works for you.

HP Color LaserJet 1600 problem

Driver won't install on HP Laserjet 6L x64
I can't seem to get Windows to recognize my printer (connected from parallel to USB cable). I try to install the driver from the Windows list of printers (I had to do an update of the list), but it says that the driver is not signed, when it is clearly from Microsoft and signed. What can I do?
