Why is Defraggler reporting higher defragmentation numbers than 7?

I noticed that the Windows Defrag tool says I have 1% fragmentation while Defraggler says I have 17%. Is this normal?

Yeah, we just had a thread about that on vista forums, I wouldn't worry about it.

Clean then Defrag OR Defrag then Clean - Vista Forums

It does that to me too, but auslogics says 1%.

What happens if you defrag with defraggler? Does it reduce fragmentation? You can also check with the Auslogics defragmenter.

I wouldnt be too bothered. Different defraggers probably look at files in different ways. I think the the inbuilt defrag doesnt look at the paging file and the MFT. Also, remember in vista and 7 MS changed things so chunks larger than 64 mb are ignored by the defrag. Also, defrag was invented for older, slower disks- now with disks that are way, way faster fragmentation has only a very limited impact on responsiveness. I recommend this article to everyone.
