3rd party SW will run in Admin account but not User account...

    Hello all,

I need some guidance please. I have a chess software program that I installed on my Admin user account for W7 64 bit OS. The program is a bit older and would not run after installation on my W7 OS. After I went into the properties and compatibility mode and selected the option to run as if my OS was Windows XP Service Pack 2, then the program started running and working great!

My problem is that if I use a different User Account (other than admin) and try to run the program it gives me an error message and won't start. I also selected the compatibility mode for Windows XP SP2 in the other user account but it didn't help.

Finally, I went to: Control Panel - Programs and Features with the thought to try to uninstall and reinstall the program and the chess program isn't even listed with my other installed programs (and yet it still runs just fine on my Admin account).

Any guidance or thoughts on this matter would be most appreciated!

    Regards,

    Gavin

    Welcome
Gavin, did you give permission to the other user to use the game
Permissions - Allow or Deny Users and Groups

You may also want to have it run as adminstrastor, when in the none adminstrator account
    Run as Administrator

Awesome!! Thank you so much. Not sure what was causing the problem here. I initially gave full control to all users and that didn't help. Then I clicked on the "Change Settings for All Users" button and the "Run as Administrator" box was already checked, but when I hit apply and okay, it then allowed me to run the program on my desired user account (just prompting for Admin PW when I start it, which is fine). So everything is working great! Thanks so much for your help!

One more question - any idea why this program doesn't show up in my Control Panel: Programs and Features folder? I'm curious to know how I would ever uninstall the program if I desired to do so.

    Much thanks!

    Gavin

    Gavin,
You may have to download Ccleaner, it normally shows more programs than programs and features in control panel..
