Spell Checking Text Boxes with Word MS Word does not spell check text in text boxes only text outside text boxes.
Is there a work-around for this?
I have an 800-page doc with a text box on every page.
Thanks reasoner | My System Specs |

Which version of word are you using?
When you say it doesn't spell check the text boxes, do you mean as you type or do you mean after clicking on the 'abc' icon or pushing F7 (I think it is F7 for spellcheck). | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Manufactured by the muppet who wrote this :) OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU AMD Phenom 9850 Quad Motherboard ASUS Crosshair F' II Memory 8GB Cosair Twin2X4096-6400C5 Graphics Card XFX GeForce GTX 280 * 3 Sound Card Asus Xonar D2X Monitor(s) Displays Panasonic TX-P42V10B & 21" sony trinitron *2 Keyboard Logitech G11 Mouse Logitech MX Revolution PSU Corsair HX 1000W Case I dunno, box of some kind i think Cooling Noctua fans Hard Drives 3* WD Caviar Blk 1TB 32MB SATA II RAID5 (1862.93GB)

I am using Word 2010
I do not spell check as I write.
When I spell check the entire doc, only text outside text boxes is spell checked.
To spell check a text box, I must insert the cursor in the text box then hit spell check to perform this function. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell OS Win7 64 CPU Dell 2.8 Intel Dual Core Memory Dell 8G Graphics Card NVideo 260 Sound Card Delta 2496 Monitor(s) Displays 3 flat panels Hard Drives many |

Guessing:
Save it as a text file.
Open in Word, see if you can then check those particular locations.
If not, resave the text file as Word again and try again. If you find any misspellings, you at least know where they are and can hand-correct your original Word doc. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Ignatz Special; 4 speed manual gearbox; factory air conditioning; one of one OS Windows 7 SP1, Home Premium, 64-bit CPU Intel Sandy Bridge i5-2500, not overclocked Motherboard Gigabyte H67A-UD3H-B3, full ATX Memory 4 GB Crucial DDR3-1333 Graphics Card none; graphics are integrated on CPU Sound Card onboard: Realtek ALC892; external: USB Behringer UF0-202 Monitor(s) Displays NEC 90GX2-BK 19" LCD Screen Resolution 800 x 640 Keyboard Leopold Tenkeyless with Cherry Blue switches, USB Mouse Logitech or Microsoft optical wired; either USB or PS 2 PSU Seasonic SS-560KM, modular Case Antec Solo II Cooling CPU: Scythe Big Shuriken; Case: Scythe Slipstream 800 & 500 Hard Drives System: Intel 320 Series SSD, 80 GB;

I have just tried a spell check with some text boxes and normal text and the whole document is checked.
Have you tried to select all then spell check? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self built OS Windows 7 64bit home premium CPU I5 3570K Motherboard Gigabyte Z77-DS3H Memory 4 x 4GB Crucial Ballistix Sport DDR3 1600 Mhz Graphics Card Gigabyte Geforce 660 TI Sound Card creative x-fi Monitor(s) Displays Primary CiBox 22" Widescreen LCD ,Secondary Dell 22" Widescr Screen Resolution Both 1680 x 1050 Keyboard Trust ds-3200 Wireless keyboard and mouse Mouse Trust ds-3200 Wireless keyboard and mouse PSU Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Complient PSU Case Antec 900 Ultimate Gaming Case Cooling 3xfront 1xside 1xrear blue fan, 1 200mm blue top fan 1 Hard Drives 2 x 500G HD (SATA) 1 x 2 TB USB Internet Speed 288 / 4000 Other Info Creative Inspire 7.1 T7900 Speakers

I have Office 2007, not 2010, so I'm not sure how to fix this problem, but the first thing I would do is to go into Word, Options, Proofing, and look at the "Correct Spelling + Grammar in Word" section. You may have some options there that will control the Spellchecking of the text in the text boxes. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Pavillion dv5t (generation 1) OS Vista 64 bit and 32 bit (SP2) CPU Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9400 (2.53 GHz Memory 4GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm) Graphics Card 512 MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT Monitor(s) Displays 15.4" diagonal WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Widescre Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050 Keyboard Built-in HP Mouse Built in - Synaptics TouchPad V6.5 on PS/2 Port Hard Drives 320GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection Internet Speed Max Other Info ~ Intel Next-Gen Wireless-N Mini-card w/Bluetooth ~ Blu-Ray ROM DVD+/-R/RW ~ Integ. thanks for the replies everyone - I've tried all the fixes, none work on my end - must be my version of Word - I am erring on the side of caution and checking each text box
also, this doc is 800+ pages - Word does not like big graphic-intensive docs so I have discovered - can't break it up because it need to see the whole thing
moving ever closer to buying a Mac desktop - haven't had one issue with my Macbook - Windows 7 has been a pain in the ass since day one
back it up

Save a piece of the document with text boxes into its own file. Working with this test file, hit Ctrl-a (to select everything). Then run the spell check. Does it cover what's in the boxes?
By the way, in the test document, make sure there are a few intentionally misspelled words. MS Word may actually be spell-checking the text box contents, but if nothing's misspelled, it may seem as if MS Word is ignoring them. Give the check a little time--I think MS Word goes through regular text first, and then it goes back and hits the boxes. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Studio XPS 8100 OS Windows 7 Home Premium x64 SP 1 CPU Intel Core i7 860 @ 2.8 GHz Motherboard Dell 0T568R (CPU1) Memory 8.0 GB Dual Channel DDR3 @ 664 MHz (9-9-9-24) Graphics Card nVidia GeForce GTS 240 Sound Card M-Audio Delta Audiophile 2496 Monitor(s) Displays Dell 2407WFP Screen Resolution 1920x1200 Hard Drives 977 GB Western Digital WDC WD1001FAES-75W7A0 (SCSI) Antivirus MSE, MalwareBytes Anti-Malware Browser Firefox Other Info Microsoft Security Essentials, Mozilla Firefox, Mozilla Thunderbird.
