That apart, you can browse through the following sites to pick up and try any freeware of your interest.
    http://freewarefiles.com/
    www.softpedia.com
    www.tucows.com
    www.majorgeeks.com
Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

(While the list is not exhaustive, these are some of the well-known sites)

I have to add that just because it is freeware do not load your machine with unwanted software. Define your interest and look out for the most popular ones. Go through the editor's/users' reviews.

Atleast during the initial stages you should create a System Restore point before installing any new software so that you can restore the system back to its original state, in case the sofiware gets cranky or you do not like it and want to uninstall it. This is the best way to uninstall an unwanted program. The next best thing is to uninstall with a good uninstaller. Revo Uninstaller is one that is most preferred by many. So install it first. Download the current freeware version 1.91 from Download Revo Uninstaller Freeware - Free and Full Download - Uninstall software, remove programs, solve uninstall problems .

    Happy revving.:)
