    You provide very little information.

Is the driver CD new enough to have Win7 drivers?

If not, they are available for download:

I suppose that you'd know if the driver installer complained about about your laptop not having the right operating system.

The CD may have a readme. Also, Win7 was released in October of 2009. If the CD is older than that, it may well not be for Win7.

If you're not up to puzzling it out, I suggest:

Uninstall the package from the CD, if anything actually installed.

Download the installer that I provided a link to. (It's 7.1MB - not too bad, unless you're a dial-up holdout.) I hope that it's the right driver. You have a COLOR Laserjet 1600?

I'm not sure how that that installs, but the usual method is to have the printer disconnected from the laptop (but turned on). Run the installer. Connect the printer to the laptop when the installer requests that.

hi there -yes i have a colour laserjet 1600.

I will unistall what you said and install what you have provided. The printer cd is old I purchased the printer back in 2005. Would this not now be compatiable with windows 7?

""I'm not sure how that that installs, but the usual method is to have the printer disconnected from the laptop (but turned on). Run the installer. Connect the printer to the laptop when the installer requests that. "" I followed this process but when i click to test print something from excel the printer is not shown there.

Much appreciated.. I hope this works otherwise it means buying a new printer when the one i have is perfect for my requirements....

    thanks

If the CD is from 2005 or before, it won't support Vista (January 2007), much less Win7 (October 2009).

As HP has made a fully-featured drivers set available for download, you should be OK.

There is a slight chance that you'd need to use a different link than the one I provided, if you're outside the USA or Canada. (I recognize that Canadians may use some of the spellings of the Queen's English, like "colour".)

It appears that the US drivers are the only ones available for the English Language, so try those.

    Which installer crashed?
