I just got 7 64 bit... my first 64 bit OS, for good reason i guess... I noticed VLC does not exist for it, and Java (at least for browsers such as opera) does not work. I wish i had known this so i could have tried 32 bit instead. What else won't work?
Gom and KMP work fine for me in x64, haven't tried VLC yet. X64 systems still run x32 ones.
Java in x64 works fine here in both x86 and x64 versions of IE8
Guys, virtually all programmes are still 32 bit. I got 64 bit Phtoshop and Light room plus Raxco Perfect Disk and 7 zip but all my other programmes are 32 bit.
Firefox, Winamp, VLC, Utorrent, various cd/dvd burning and ripping stuff, anti-malware etc are all 32 bit.
THey work better in 64 bit imo and I have read various other posts that have said the same.
64 is great I think and I can't imagine going back.

I think what the OP was looking for was on download pages of the software he normally uses, they sometimes might not mention a 64-bit version for download directly.
However it is quite often the case that the 32-bit version of the software will work quite happily in windows 64-bit. If it doesnt you could always try Virtual XP Mode.

Why is it there is always somebody who has to say that 64 bit OS's don't support 32 bit applications. Now this is true in some cases, however, on the whole most 32 bit applications will work on a 64 bit OS. Remember when NT 3.5 came out all anybody could say was that 16 bit programing was never going to work with it—well guess what. . .you right they were wrong.
If you have a 64 bit system and have 32 bit applications that will not run on a 64 bit system then you still have options.
1. Setup your computer to run on a dual boot. If you have one HDD then format into two separate drives. Then download both the 32 and 64 bit win 7 installations and run them. If your system is a 64 bit this will allow you to run win 7 64 and get the full use of the installed ram over 3.3 Gbits, and to run applications that do support 64 bit programing (Photoshop, MS Office 2010, Lightroom, etc.).
2. Install the 64 bit system then run a virtual machine (VM Ware Workstation, Virtual Box 3.0, or the new Windows 7 Virtual Machine with Virtual XP for 32 bit programing).

MOst 32 bit work on x64, just sometimes not all functions work as intended, i think what you mean is, lack of NATIVE x64 programs.
