For general information, here are the uninstallers for most AV programs: AV Uninstallers

Yesterday my Dell Lappy M101z (the label says it is Inspiron 1120) and I got on to the task of removing the McAfee Security Center first by uninstalling it from the Programs and Features, restarting the PC and then using their cleaning tool MCPR.exe. No problems,

On the regedit, "Find McAfee" showed about a dozen entries in Keys,Values and Data. I then chose only Keys and that brought about only about 4 entries under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT>TypeLib, which I deleted.

    Values did not show any.

Searching Data showed one entry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>System>ControlSet001>Enum>Root>Legacy_CFWIDS>0000. The device name shown is McAfee Inc.cfwids. The system refused to delete this. So that one entry remains.I do not want to force-delete it but will check whether CCleaner or Glary Utilities can remove it.

The system did not come with a COA sticker anywhere. So I ran Speccy and noted down the Windows 7 Key. Well, If I decide to reinstall any day this will be required.

The system also did not come with the Dell DataSafe Local Backup software. So could not make a System Recovery pendrive. I may have to resort only to the Factory Image Restore that runs from the RECOVERY partition.

What if the hard drive fails? I have already taken a full system Image (all four Partitions +MBR) using Paragon WinPE Recovery disk ISO, booting from the pendrive as soon as the lappie arrived. And another full system image after all the Windows updates including SP1 and IE9. ( I am wondering why my lappie did not come with SP1 and IE9 and it took me hell of a lot of time to download through Windows updates - I did not know it was a patch- release day and all MS servers were perhaps getting overloaded)

And yes, making a bootable ISO pendrive is just a child's play using YUMI Multiboot ISO Creator YUMI - Multiboot USB Creator (Windows) | USB Pen Drive Linux. (I prepared my bootable pendrive just a day before my lappie arrived.)

Not much of crapware on the lappie and a big relief but a lot of startups have to be restrained - not a big problem.

You can also use a program Search Everything to find and delete entries any place on your system. Its very quick.
