    Split screen explorer?

I am looking for a tweak / addon (no spyware please!) fix for windows 7 x64's standard explorer interface.

I would like to have a multiple or split in half explorer interface basically two windows in one so I can easily drag files from one folder to another without cutting and pasting or opening a secondary window. Similar to how most FTP clients work.

Does anyone know of anything like this thats safe and free?

    Thanks

There are many choices available as an alternative to Windows Explorer.

Some are free, others are not.

A free one that I've heard about is QDir. It offers split pane views and many other features not found in Windows Explorer and you can get it here: qdir free download

The nice thing about QDir is that it's portable; that is, it needs no installation.

Using your favorite search engine, you will be able to find many more.

Just open an explorer window and drag it all the way to the left (or right) and release the window. Then open another Explorer window in the other side. That is a basic Win7 function. No extra programs required.

Another possibility is to fix windows with Deskpins ( http://users.forthnet.gr/pat/efotini.../deskpins.html ). Then you can have multiple windows concurrently.

    great work-around wolfgang.

**tip** to open a second explorer window, middle-click on the taskbar icon.

LOL, I have no middle click. I am using a keyboard with a scrollball and no mouse. RF Wireless Keyboard with Optical Trackball

I know Mikey. It was just funny that I am not able to use your excellent tip - at least not on this system. I have to try on my laptop. But there I use a mouse with a scrollball. No idea whether that also works as middle clicker.

with some mousepad software, clicking both buttons together acts as a middle-click.

i guess it depends on the driver.
