Not quite sure what you mean, but are you saying you're not able to run 32-bit software in a 64-bit environment or that you're not able to install them?

If you're not aware, 32-bit programs will be listed under Program Files (x86) and 64-bit programs will appear under Program Files in Windows Explorer.

In that case, are you using Internet Explorer?

If so, you have two choices as Windows 7 64-bit ships with both a 32-bit version and a 64-bit version.

There are issues with Adobe Flash in the 64-bit version which may affect how web pages perform when you're using IE 64-bit.

Is it *all* 32bit programs (like Google Chrome, Firefox, etc), or just 32bit IE?

Not sure on that one. Check Adobe's support for further information: Flash Player | 64-bit operating systems

Of course, you could just use IE 32-bit and forget about IE 64-bit.

Failing that, forget about IE and go for Oracle, Safari etc.

If IE doesn't work, lots of OS components share the base IE components - it's better to fix them because a non-working IE can cause other OS problems down the line. Worry about browser choice later .

Point taken. I wasn't suggesting you disable IE, just use another browser instead.

To be fair, I think most people use IE because Microsoft have always bundled it with their operating system and users rarely gave their browser choice a thought.

Of course that may well change now that users have to be given a choice of which browser to use from IE8 onwards.

1. Go to start
2. In search box, type cmd , right click cmd.exe, and then click "Run as administrator"
3. Then type:

netsh winsock reset

4. Press enter
5. Restart PC

Hopefully that will fix it

W7 64bit:Ok to install 32bit programs outside the 32bit programfolder?
OS: Win 7 64bit. Is it generally not a problem to choose to install a piece of 32bit software outside the win 7 default program folder for 32bit software? Or is 32bit software only supposed to be running flawlessly, if installed in that default 32bit folder? Thanks.
