Can applications go to different speakers

My laptop has 2 plugs for headplugs, so I was wondering If i had 2 applications, for example, if I had a movie playing and music in windows media player, can the movie go to one headphone and the music to the other?

It depends whether it is the same output paralled in two or there are two separate outputs.

Take two head/earphones or ear/headphones and speakers and plug them in BOTH outputs.
Start playing some music.
Then go to speakers icon on the Taskbar and rightclick it. Go to menu Playback Devices.
Please, take a screenshot of this window and post it here.
