What is a good alternative to Trend Micro's HijackThis?

    Hi all,

I have got Trend Micro's well-loved HijackThis on my Vista machine. I then wanted to install it on my Windows 7 machine...only to discover that it is utterly incompatible on a 64-bit system. Also, looking around other forums, I see that people seem to be moving away from HijackThis - looks like it is hopelessly outdated. I like to run HijackThis before and after installing software in order to create a log, that way I can just look at the entries and see what has changed. Modification of the entries is, of course, out of the question for me since I'm a registry dummy - it is something best left to the expertise of experts ;-) Anyway: is there a good free program similar to HijackThis (lists what is running on the computer) and which runs flawlessly on Windows 7 64-bit?

Hi, thanks for your answer Unfortunately, that's the same version as the one on Trend Micro's website - it does not work properly with 64-bit, I already installed it and had to remove it. I did a lot of reading in English and German which confirms this issue (I also came across some threads over here at seven forums). There is a beta version (2.0.5) available - but it has been in beta for months and I don't think it states that it addresses the 64-bit problem :-/

    Hi Athene,

I know this is a really old thread, I chose it because it's a the thread of yours with the least number of posts. So lots of people won't get notifications for me posting here.

I didn't come here to answer you, but I might as well whilst I'm here:

    Try either of these two:

    Bleeping Computer Downloads: DDS
OTL OldTimer's List-It - Geeks to Go Forums

OTL makes a more detailed log which is easier to read but DDS' log is short and sweet :)

Since Trend Micro bought HJT, development has really ground to a halt. Because of this, it's pretty much been abandoned as a malware removal tool as most of today's malware is able to completely hide from it.

But anyway, I'm sure that doesn't matter any more, it's been 7 months and I hope you're still not looking for one!

The main reason I'm posting here is just to ask: how are you? We haven't heard anything from you in 4 weeks and you've turned all messaging off We miss you Athene!
