Windows 7 UAC (user account control) won't open Hi, I'm new here, but I hope someone can help me out.
The other day I had to access User Account Controls because I was having some problems with Itunes and when I tried to open the Configure User Account Controls panel, a blank window opened for about 10-20 seconds and then it closed on its own. This kept happening even after I had restarted the computer. Also, this is the only thing with which this happens. Everything else opens perfectly.
I've been looking around for a while now, in other forums and costumer support, and I couldn't find anyone with the same problem or any thread addresing it.
I have a Windows 7 Professional, 32bit and I was using the Administrator account when this happened (it is the only account in the computer).
Anyone had this problem before?
Any suggestions of what might be causing it/how to fix it?
Thanks beforehand for any information/help | My System Specs |

- Open User Accounts by clicking the Start button
, clicking Control Panel, clicking User Accounts and Family Safety (or clicking User Accounts, if you are connected to a network domain), and then clicking User Accounts. - Click Turn User Account Control on or off.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. - Select the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer check box to turn on UAC, or clear the check box to turn off UAC, (In your case you need to turn it off) and then click OK.

In order to turn off UAC I need to open the "Change User Account Control", which is the window that opens blank for 10-20 seconds and then closes on its own. This happens regardles from where I try to open it, be it from User Account
P.S.: In my previous post I called it "Configure User Account Control", my bad. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell XPS M1530 OS Windows 7 Professional x32 CPU Intel Core Duo T9300 @2.50 GHz Memory 4 Gb RAM Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT Hard Drives One, 220 GB |

Hi dcast,
That sounds like Vista's UAC, not Windows 7. Unfortunately, Aron26 is having an issue clicking "Change User Account Control settings".
Aron26, have you installed any programs lately? Done any OS tweaking? Can you explain the problem you're having with iTunes? I'd like to get a background of what your computer is like. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Myself OS Win7 Ultimate x64, Server 2008 R2 CPU AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 2.8GHz Motherboard GIGABYTE GA-890FXA-UD5 Memory 8GB G.SKILL Ripjaws Series DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Graphics Card 2x HIS/Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5830 in CrossfireX Sound Card Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Monitor(s) Displays Dell 2407WFP 24", Dell 22" Screen Resolution 1920x1200 Keyboard SteelSeries MercStealth Mouse Razer Lachesis PSU CORSAIR HX Series CMPSU-750HX 750W Case Antec Nine Hundred Cooling Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus CPU cooler Hard Drives Patriot Torqx 128GB SSD

Hi hjonesMCT,
With Itunes it's not really a problem, it's an annoyance. Whenever I connect my Ipod it and open Itunes, it constantly keeps asking me to authorize my pc or else it will delete all of my apps. I authorize it and then it works fine until I try to synch it again. I looked it up in apple support and it said to turn off UAC, restart my pc, turn UAC back on, restart it again and it should solve the problem (amongst other possible solutions). I noticed the problem when I went to turn off UAC, because the window would pop up blank and then close on its on.
The only new thing I remember installing is an "AVG Internet Security 2011" trial version a few day ago. I haven't done any tweaking to the OS.
One more thing, the last time I opened the Change User Account Controls was back when i had just installed my Windows 7 professional to configure it (My laptop came with Vista, I switched to 7 a couple months after it came out) and have not opened it since. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell XPS M1530 OS Windows 7 Professional x32 CPU Intel Core Duo T9300 @2.50 GHz Memory 4 Gb RAM Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT Hard Drives One, 220 GB |

Might be a wise idea to run a anti-virus scan and malware scan. It could be an infection messing with UAC. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Build OS Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit SP1 CPU Intel i7 3770k Motherboard Asus P8Z77-V LK Memory 8 GB Patriot G2 1600MHz DDR3 Graphics Card Sapphire Radeon 7870 Sound Card None Monitor(s) Displays Gateway FHX2402L Screen Resolution 1920 X 1080 Keyboard Logitech K800 Mouse Logitech T620 PSU Corsair 750 TX Case Cooler Master Cooling Stock fan Hard Drives OCZ Vertex 4 256 GB Internet Speed 15.20 Mb/s download 2.09 Mb/s upload (Speedtest.net) Other Info First Computer used: A Commodore Pet of course

I can show you how to configure the UAC settings manually using the command line (or Registry, if you feel ambitious). It's a temporary fix, but it will work for the iTunes problem (hopefully). Check out this link for the full command: How to toggling UAC on/off quickly, eg. using command line, in Windows-7? - Super User
Also, there's a second option which doesn't involve editing the registry or tedious typing. It's what I was going to recommend: changing Administrator account Local Group Policy settings. It's actually listed as the second answer on that link I gave you.
Hope this helps for now; in the meantime, we'll be trying to find an answer for the UAC UI issue.
Best,

Also, removing the SC Info folder under iTunes might also help. It's a hidden folder. The steps on how to do it are here, in Apple's help section: iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play iTunes Store purchases | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Myself OS Win7 Ultimate x64, Server 2008 R2 CPU AMD Phenom II X6 1055T Thuban 2.8GHz Motherboard GIGABYTE GA-890FXA-UD5 Memory 8GB G.SKILL Ripjaws Series DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Graphics Card 2x HIS/Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5830 in CrossfireX Sound Card Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Monitor(s) Displays Dell 2407WFP 24", Dell 22" Screen Resolution 1920x1200 Keyboard SteelSeries MercStealth Mouse Razer Lachesis PSU CORSAIR HX Series CMPSU-750HX 750W Case Antec Nine Hundred Cooling Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus CPU cooler Hard Drives Patriot Torqx 128GB SSD
