    Upgrade

Hi I had a problem with my gadgets so I upgrade to ultimate 64bit from prem 64bit I put the number from under my new all in one Acer computer and it upgraded in about 5 mins. And was autherized. I thought I had to pay for this, hoping the licence no I put in was obviously for Ultimate. Should I contact Acer or microsoft. Or not bother as the number on the bottom did not coincide with the original installation. And it did not fixthe gadget problem, but I got a fix on the forum all now working smoothly. By the way the number I put in was a OEM one.

Edit: I had originaly asked to have the unit with Ultimate but changed my mind later when I realised the extra cost was greater than buying a new copy.

Hard to figure out what you said. If the acer came with home premium preinstalled, the key at the bottom can reinstall only home premium. Are you saying you anytime upgraded from home premium to ultimate with a home premium key? Thats not possible.

If you mean you used the ultimate sticker key on one computer to upgrade home premium on a different computer, thats a breach of the EULA because you're using ONE license on TWO computers. The sticker key can only be used on the computer it came stuck on.

The installed key on OEM computers is always different from the sticker key because of the special activation mechanism used by OEMs. But if you successfully upgraded to ultimate using a home premium key, all i can say is Praise the Lord!

See, its not possible to upgrade from home premium to ultimate using a home premium key. If it has somehow worked for you, I have no idea why unless acer downgraded/reinstalled home premium on a machine originally preloaded with ultimate to maybe fulfill a rush time order. Again I've never heard such a thing happening but well.... As for contacting acer, thats upto you. What you're doing right now is using a license in excess of what you paid for- if that bothers you, act accordingly. Not for me to give moral advice.

Hi Bill2 I contacted the shop where I purchased the comp. They recon Acer must have done a batch of Ultimate and changed the software but not the licence, but the licence would have been paid for by Acer and would be safe to upgrade, so no need to contact Microsoft I think. I'll think about it over the next couple of days, then decide what to do, thanks again Bill2.

Maybe someone would like to comment.
