Sounds like you're talking about Paint Shop Pro 1 not 7. LOLPaint Shop Pro is an ancient 16-bit Windows 3.1 program.
I have versions 7, 8 and 9 but use 8 all the time to do what I call post-processing work on photos after I've done all the heavy lifting with Adobe Lightroom. I don't use 9 because it often crashed on me and I didn't find much different about it from 8.
At some point, I'll give PSP 8 a try on Win 7 as I know someday I'll be faced with that situation. It may be necessary to move up to newer version - PSP 7 is getting a bit long in the tooth.
