Adobe Reader is trying to Open all my programs

I tried to open a file and was prompted with an Open With screen. Mistakenly I must've chosed Adobe Reader and as a result all my programs were attached with a .lnk extension and couldn't open any programs. I uninstalled Adobe Reader and everything went back to normal but whenever I reinstall Adobe Reader the problem returns. Is there a simple solution to fix this?

I tried to run a system restore but the only restore point is a System Image Restore Point six months old. I will post this under a new thread but thought I mention it in case you suggest a system restore to fix the .lnk problem.

I don't think the problem has to do with file type associations.

After I reinstalled adobe reader I did check the file type associations and the list showed the correct programs to open them.

    Any other ideas?

Hi, I think this solution might help - a poster had the same problem as you (problem went away after removing Adobe Reader and returned after reinstalling Reader):
Adobe Reader Icon takes over all other program's icons - Microsoft Answers

Please tell us if this works.

It should help. Try downloading and merging the lnk (LNK) and exe options in that tutorial to see if it may help. It sounds like you may have set the lnk extension (shortcuts) to "Open with" Adobe Reader.
