windows 7 can't reconize with local network interface driver software HI, dell has informed me that my problem with my PC Is that windows 7 can't reconize the local network interface driver and told me that it's a software issue. I reinstalled the local network interface driver from the original cd that came with the PC and 2x's restored the computer to another time and then restored it back to the factory settings-with a Dell tech on the phone- nothing helped. This problem started one morning when lighting was felt/heard very close to our home and in fact burned out our verizon moden/box that Verizon replaced. From this point I wasn't able to go on line because there was no local network avail for verizon to connect to is how I understand it.
Can anyone help?????
Thank you in advance for any and all ideas or advice!

Dell Support, along with most OEM support, is crap. The best place for support with Windows computers is this forum. Anyways, you mean LAN Ethernet driver right? Could you please go into Device Manager and tell me the model name and manufacturer of your Ethernet device. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Pavilion dv6-2020ev OS Ubuntu 12.10 CPU Intel Core i7 720QM Motherboard Its a HP secret... Yes, he is talking about LAN Ethernet Driver. Did you just re-install the driver for your LAN that was already present on your computer?
Ok here is what you do:
1. Download this file (zip file) (you have to accept the agreement): Broadcom.com - Broadcom License Agreement
2. Extract the zip file into a folder.
3. Open Device Manager.
4. Expand the Network Adapters section, and double click on your LAN Ethernet device (Broadcom BCM57780).
5. Select the Driver tab at the top. Click Update Driver.
6. Select Browse my computer for driver software...
7. Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer...
8. (Make sure Show compatible hardware is checked) Select Have Disk. Select Browse. Navigate to the downloaded (extracted) folder containing the drivers for the Broadcom LAN Device. Inside the folder, there are 3 files. Select the file named k57nd60a.inf. Select Next. It should install your new updated driver. If it asks you to, restart your computer. Your device should work now. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Pavilion dv6-2020ev OS Ubuntu 12.10 CPU Intel Core i7 720QM Motherboard Its a HP secret... error message the problem? Hi thanks for getting back to me. I downloaded the broadcom driver from the disk that came with the computer as well as off the internet (Dell website) both times and this time from your down load link ...the problem is when I go to open the device manager there is no Network Adapters section to expand...it's like the pc doesn’t reconize or register that the driver is there??? also when I did down load/extract from the disc two things happened: one message read: The SNMP service must be running for HPIS feature to function properly. SNMP service was not detected. You must install this service for the advanced service sub agent to work properly. 2nd message: Error occurred while unzipping one or more files were not successfully unzipped. The error code is 40. Any ideas? Hi, I did run a system file check to verify and repair the OS files and it came back as no problems. I can't do a repair install from the OS dvd since my PC didn't come with such a cd (instead I was suppose to make a back up OS file but didn't ) I also went into services to enable the SNMP. THere was no 'enable' feature but was a option to set it as automatic which I did and then I attempted to reinstalll the broadcom item but still the same. NO network device in device manager. I have been able to save the file onto my thumb drive on this computer, open onto the PC that's has the problem, go to extract the file where I can choose a file and I've chosed a few difference places ( Computer/OS/driver/desktop....)with no differences in the result: when I open device manager, there is no network adapter to expand or do anything with...
At the very least I feel that I"m getting closer to the solutions, thanks to you.Thats definatly something but what else can I try?

Regarding snmp you are looking for "start" not enable and it may not be able to because of some dependance on it, or something it depends on. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Pavillion dv-7 1005 Tx OS Win 8 Release candidate 8400 CPU 2@2.4 Memory 4 gigs Graphics Card Nvidia 9600M Sound Card HD built-in Monitor(s) Displays 17" Wxga Screen Resolution 1440x900 Cooling none Internet Speed 45Mb down 5Mb up windows 7 can't reconize with local network interface driver software problems?
