    Hello LPT,

It appears that resistance is futile, you will be assimilated.

What part of the newer 2011 version did you not like? There might be a way around it instead.

    Brink thanks for your reply.
I prefer a stand alone I M..( Windows Live I M.) not all the other things that are combined with it.
I prefer the compact view.. quite often there are a lot of new features..which take me forever
to finally get mine set the way I enjoy it...I don't want to buy a call service to use my I M..
I can use my headset.. do that Free... I enjoy talking to my brother and other family members this way.. seeing and chatting at the same time. FREE.. lol I do love FREE.

    Hi LPt ...

My aging brain cell seems to recall that Windows Live Messenger was/is a part of Windows Live Essentials. If you go to control panel > programs and features, scroll down to WLE and highlight it (or right-click it) > uninstall. That should open up the uninstall wizard which should give you the option to uninstall one or more Windows Live programs. If you uninstall Windows Live Messenger the 2011 nags should stop. If by chance Messenger isn't listed you could uninstall all programs then reinstall only those Essentials programs you want. (How presumptuous of Microsoft to decide what's essential! :))

The Word "essentials" in this context should be read as ....

"all those lovely free items we used to include in Windows, (like iEverything on other platforms), until the politicians decided we had to remove them to give others a chance."

There are better applications, to do the jobs of these apps, many are also free, however for many basic PC users the suite is not that bad.

Messenger is the flagship application of the suite and is therefore the most actively developed, as it is also a major malware target it is always good practice to use the latest version just for the security improvements. (this also applies to non Microsoft products such as Adobe reader and Flash)

Nigel hello.. I've not seen you around recently..
I do keep both of those items updated.. (Adobe reader and flash ) as soon as any come out...
I only want the one item from the group of essentials.. that's my I M... I do use those other Free program versions.. we all must have on our pc's to protect us from those who wish to do harm .
As always , your input is taken with respect.

Hey Lady have you considered giving Trillian a try? It also features several other major IM protocols such as AIM,Yahoo, and Facebook. It might be a bit more then what your looking for but great app!
