Actually, quite opposite. Imaging a person who is sick and trying to take all medicines he can find. We are actually likely to lose that patient.

First we need to determine location and cause of the problem.

You need to get more info. Try to analize what programs are running during this time (may be there is some heavy updating in process), monitor system resources (Performance tab in Windows Task Manager) etc. May be temporary install a different browser and see if IE was causing the problem.

The problem occurs also when Outlook is open and IE9 not.
It seems to be independent from an application, so hardware or network.
I see at certain moments al lot of TCP-connections (50+) and IPv4- and IPv6-loopback messages.
The antimalwareservice is running most of the time, but isn't consuming all of the CPU.
The (multiple) svchost.exe processes are consuming the CPU:
svchost.exe (netsvcs)
svchost.exe (localserviceandnoimpersonation)
svchost.exe (localservice)
svchost.exe (NetworkService)

Is it still worth an effort to try to run the Security Restore tool (didn't do it so far) to solve the Fix It problem ?
Can I do something wrong by running it ?
(I can always make a restore point first)

Hey Cujo -

Just read your postings and have some questions... Since you completed the IE Repair have you been having the same problems? Is IE working at all? And have you run the System File Checker program yet? If not then you need to do this next:

1. Go into your start menu and access the accessories folder. Right click on the link Command Prompt and select run as administrator.

2. In the black command window you will be prompted to type an action... type the following sfc /SCANNOW followed by hitting the enter key. (see attached pics and although it's hard to tell - there is a space between sfc and /SCANNOW) This will verify the integrity of your system files and repair anything that needs fixed. NOTE: if you have any kind of special customization to the shell or such those changes will be reverted back to factory conditions.

This verification process will take a short while (maybe around 20 minutes) At the end of the test you will receive a message in that command window that either system file recovery found errors to the system and repaired them -or- system file recovery did not find any corrupt files at this time. Either way just type the word exit and hit return - this will close the window. If repairs were made then you need to reboot your system now. If errors weren't found then yes I would run the security restore tool. Don't worry about some of those dll files that weren't registered - they could have been part of some old extension that you don't have anymore.

Hopefully the sfc will repair your system and you can go back to not hating your computer again. Let me know what happens!

Tx for your message, I'm at my work now and i can try this this evening (It's now 11am in Belgium).

IE9 is working, but I'm getting continuously the message that "intranet settings are not avaible by default in Internet Explorer. Click here for more options" (translated from dutch) in the statusbar.

I don't need to have access to an intranet, but I have tried this a few months ago before the freezes started to occur.

Just adding a bit info about 'weird' things that happen to keep this thread going...

On Tuesday (Monthly Update's MS) I received updates for .NET Framework 3.5 AND .NET Framework 4, but only .NET Framework 4 is in my programs list.
Same scenario with Visual Studio 2005 AND Visual Studio 2008. Only 2008 is in my list of programs.

Is this normal ? Doesn't seems logic to me.

Another thing that I'd changed around the time my troubles started was the installation of AVG9. Because I thought this was a reason for my freezes, I did an uninstall of AVG9 and changed to MS Security Essentials. But the freezes weren't disappearing.

Regarding Visual Studio 2005, you can receive update for it, if other component requires it.
For example, if you install Microsoft Streets & Trips (Microsoft AutoRoute) 2010, Windows Update will install some updates for Office 2007, even if you have Office 2010. Because that package require some components of Office 2007.

If I check my logbooks there's a lot of start/stop activity of the multiple services. Is there anywhere an overview of all services that are normally (default) active ?
F.e. I couldn't read my card with my cardreader unless I had started manually the SmartCard service.

Let's see if VEW gives a hint as to what's happening ...

Download VEW by Vino Rosso
and save it to your desktop
Double click it to start it Note: If running Windows Vista or Windows 7 you will need to right click the file and select Run as administrator and click Continue or Allow at the User Account Control Prompt.
Click the check boxes next to Application and System located under Select log to query on the upper left
Under Select type to list on the right click the boxes next to Error and Warning Note: If running Windows Vista or Windows 7 also click the box next to Critical (not XP).
Under Number or date of events select Number of events and type 20 in the box next to 1 to 20 and click Run
Once it finishes it will display a log file in notepad
Copy and paste its entire contents into your next reply
