    Recovery of Product Licence Keys

Office 2007 Home and Student was pre-installed on my computer, but now after what could be a bad return to factory state, I need reinput the product key.

Being unable to find it, I have tried a number of free keyfinders, most of which just give the Windows key. Licence Crawler, mentioned in a Sticky, finds far more, but nothing for Office.

Can anyone help me with the problem with Licence Crawler, please?

Or give any advice on recovering the Product Key at all?

I am aware of key generators, but feel they may lead to worse problems.

Office 2007 Home & student is a commercial product, it doesnt come bundled for free. If you didnt pay extra for it, it was most likely a trial version, if you did pay there should be some kind of packaging/ wrapping with the key on it.

Does Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit reveal anything?

Are there any stickers on your computer?

I think you can still buy Office 2007 from reputable outlets (the cost will depend on the features you want/require, and hence the version you will need to get).

As regards keygens, STEER WELL CLEAR.

Well aren't trial versions valid for only a limited period before one has to buy a key?

I am sure it was a paid for item: I have been using the software for more than a year.

Stikers, yes, but the only one AFAICS, that conforms to the correct format, is the Windows key.

Yes, trial versions are valid usually for 60-90 days. OK, so lets dig deeper. Did you buy this computer with windows preinstalled and preactivated? And Office 2007 has been working fine on it for a year or so? If yes, look up all the documentation that came with the computer.

Point is normal OEM computers dont come with licensed office (except Office 2010 starter which is a different story) preinstalled unless you got the machine customized at the time of purchase. Do you remember doing that?

If Office 2007 is prompting for a key, your keyfinders will not find it. The keyfinder can only find the key if it has already been entered and stored somewhere in the windows registry. Doing the restore erased it from the system. You would have had to retrieve it before doing the restore to factory state. If it was a full pre-installed version it wouldn't be asking for a key. I know this isn't much help, I just wanted to point out that searching windows for the key now, is a waist of time. Its not there to be found.

That throws me utterly, why it was working so long, more than a year after activation.
