PowerShell Get-ChildItem help

Hi, I need some help with the gci command, basically I want to keep the "Directory: path" line that gci display in the output by default.

When I use gci with "Select:Object", that line is absent, making the output a terrible mess to navigate when used with the "-recurse' argument.

Is there a way or that behavior is by design?
