    Just a thought. Do you use more than one e-mail client e.g. Live Mail and Outlook?

    If so, which one is the default one? If it's not Live Mail, should you make it so?

    It might be worth delving into your e-mail application's settings. I use Windows Live Mail and have just checked to discover I have eight unread messages, but there's no indication of any sort on my task bar.

    I don't have a Hotmail icon that shows any unread messages either. And I'd really like to have that. How do we activate it? Anyone know?

    I think this only works if you are signed in to Hotmail via IE9- try signing/re-signing in and do a clean restart of Explorer;

    Type "TSKILL EXPLORER" *without the quotes* in the start/search box and hit return, to see if the notifications show again?
