    Java 6 Update 26 Won't Install

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium (32-bit) and can't successfully update Java Version 6 Update 24 to Update 26. The installer downloads OK but when I try to run it, it starts but quickly crashes. No error message is displayed however.

I've tried both the online and offline approaches but get the same negative result.

Also, Java does not appear in Control Panel's Uninstall or Change a program list. I've found my present version (Java 6 Version 6 Update 24) in C:/Windows/System32/javaws.exe.

    I'd appreciate any help.

    Welcome to the forum!

Try removing the full version you have installed and install the newest version of the program instead of trying to perform an update. Here is the link to get the program.

    Download Java for Windows

Let us know how you make out.

I'm afraid I don't know how to remove my present version of Java since it isn't listed in Control Panel's "Uninstall a Program" list - nor is there any JRE shown.

Hmm.. are you able to to extensions (..addons). Java might be listed there!

I found my present version of Java in Firefox's add-ons list. There's an option to disable it but no option to uninstall it. I tried disabling it but Version 6 Upgrade 26 still doesn't install (i.e. same problem as reported originally).

Try this uninstall software and see if JAVA is on the list.
Revo installer will do a perfect uninstallation of any software.

Revo Uninstaller seems to have successfully removed Java from my system. When it finished, I again tried to install Java but it still fails - the setup screen displays but when I
hit Install, it appears to begin the installation (displays progress bars) but quickly stops - (progress bars no longer displayed) - no error message is displayed.

Afraid I don't understand stackz's suggestion. He says. "The easiest workaround is to copy the jre1.6.0_23 folder and contents (msi installer and Data1.cab) from your own computer or one on which it's been installed, to a flash drive. Transfer to the problem computer and run the msi installer".

I have the target version of Java running on an XP machine and in C:/Program Files on that machine is a Java folder. It contains two subfolders, jre1.5.0_06 and jre6 but neither has anything called msi installer or Data1.cab. I can copy the folders to a thumb drive but that doesn't seem right. Any suggestions?
