Windows 7: Google Earth 6 will not install in Windows 7

Hi guys, I found an earlier thread on Google earth 5 but the last entry was 505 days old. I tried their suggestions the last of which was this:

googleearth.exe -setOGL
googleearth.exe -setDX

Both took me to the google helpsite page indices. I have tried installing Google Updater with Chrome 12 and GE6. Zilch. Chrome 12 is running fine but when i try installing GE6 I get this error code- 0x80040905. Wikipedia's got a swell fixer tool for it only it ain't compatible w/ Windows 7 nor is there any way to make it compatible.

I have an HP p6330f pavilion Windows 7 Home premium dual pentium processor desktop PC and I run browsers Firefox 3.6.18 (default)(Tried FF 4 and 5 and all they do is crash); Avant 2011 Build 12; Chrome 12; Opera 11.50; IE8 (All IE9 did was crash)



I have tried every workaround imaginable and nothing works. I even tried making GE6 compatible with XP Service Pack 3 to no avail. I can't understand this because up until yesterday I had GE6 installed and running. Now it's gone except from the downloads pages. Can anyone offer anything new to try? Thanks- keimanzero

Thanks pb but I had already tried those steps. However, I found that if I went to the GE6 download page and opened Customize advance settings and unchecked the auto update and all users boxes and made the download application compatible with Windows XP Service Pack 3 and then reinstalled it everything was copathetic.

I also found a GE6 plugin for Firefox, IE, Chrome and Flock and dl/installed it just to be on the safe side. BTW Flock no longer exists. And that softpedia fixit tool is no longer supported nor is its use encouraged by Microsoft since it can mess up the OS especially in Windows 7.

The wiki repair errors tools (all of them) are incompatible with Windows 7 nor can you make them compatible as their properties do not include a compatibility tab.

I solved my problem and as far as I'm concerned guys this is a dead thread and I'm marking it solved and closing it out. Thanks again for all the assistance and everyone have a very happy and a very safe 4th of July weekend. Later- keimanzero
