Oracle Ships First Major Java Update in Five Years Quote: Oracle has shipped a release candidate of Java 7, the first major revision to Java in almost five years. Quote: Reinhold described JDK7 as "not a revolutionary release, but an evolutionary release, with some significant improvements, but nothing earth-shattering".
Features of Java 7 include JVM support for dynamic languages; tweaks in the language, known as Project Coin; a new file I/O library which adds support for metadata; and a new pipeline for Java 2D, among other features. Source
