Windows Live Messenger Beta

Windows Live Messenger Beta has two taskbar "boxes" open when buddy list is open and 1 open at all times to quickly change your "avalability" and there is no tray icon so you can't quickly close it without signing out and closing or just ending the process with task manager.

Quite an annoyance

Agreed - everyone reading this thread report this as an issue, please, so we can get our minimize to system tray functionality back....

Or at least get WLM to not take up 2 spaces on the taskbar!

That's normal, if you think about it - the one space is taken up by what is *normal* in the system tray - the second is taken up *only* when you have a chat window open *or* if you have your contact list open. Those, by default, always took up a taskbar slot.

So, the issue lies with the no system tray ability of WLM - and it's weird, cause I have plenty of other apps that have no issue minimizing to the system tray....

I understand what you're saying, that one that stays no matter what sould bein the tray not the taskbar.
There also needs to be a context in the right click menu to CLOSE windows live messenger. That whole tray/taskbar thing is fooked!

Yeah - I am tempted to install Vista in VBox to see if this new WLM does that in there too - but I am *betting* that it works normally in Vista....

Yes it does, I use the Windows Live Messenger Beta in Vista and it works fine. So this problem is just a Windows 7 tray icon issue.

I bet it is more simple than that - the system tray function probably does an OS check, and if XP/Vista re found, then the minimize to system tray function is enabled - since Windows 7 is *not* either of those two WLM is blocking the System tray function.

Well, it could be that in combination with the new functions to give you ready accessibility and control directly from the taskbar that is built into Windows 7....
