Taken Photo Scanner Factor - Convert Images to Docs

    Hi,

I want to scan some documents, but I do not have a scanner. Instead, I can take pictures of the ones and if possible, convert them into Doc file. Is there any program that will help me to do that?

    Thanks in advance!

Wait, so let me get this straight. You want to use a camera, and take pictures (of what exactly) and then convert it to Microsoft Office Word?

Yes, using a camera I want to take a picture of a document(paper) and then convert it into Microsoft Office format. Is that possible?

No not really, because the OCR software (image/pdf to text) can't use a camera because it doesn't have a high enough PPI (detail). So basically, you are out of luck. Sorry. Honestly, you could get a good HP Scanner for around, 65 bucks. HP ScanJet G3010 Photo Scanner - 4800 dpi x 9600 dpi - Flatbed scanner

You could give this Web site a try:

    Free online OCR

It restrictions are severe enough to make it unattractive for regular use, but it may be OK for experimenting.

My first thought was that a camera wouldn't have adequate resolution for OCR, but I calculate that scanning an 8 X 10" area (approx. 20 X 25 cm) at 150 DPI (about 6 dots/mm) would give an image smaller than 2 megapixels. Lots of cameras at the moment can do better than that.

Other free on-line OCR services -- and these create EDITABLE documents:

OCRTerminal is a free online OCR service that converts scanned images into EDITABLE + searchable Word docs. Register a free account and you can convert 20 pages for free every month. Works well.

OnlineOCR – Text recognition software. Doesn’t recreate the document, but gives you the text, which is EDITABLE. Free and accurate, however, the max file size is 1 MB. Registration is required.
