I haven't had java installed on my machine for over 2yrs, and I can count on one hand the number of times I stumbled upon a website that needed it. Good riddance!
I haven't had java installed on my machine for over 2yrs, and I can count on one hand the number of times I stumbled upon a website that needed it. Good riddance!
I went to another test page: Java Tester - Home Page and I got an error message:
and I tracked it back to my firewall(PCTools Firewall). If I kill the firewall, it works fine. I'll have to diddle with the settings to try to get it to play nice with Java 7. This will not be my first rodeo with those cowboys. They had a bug before that every 60 seconds, it would kill the current download. It took them months to resolve that one.
Thanks for your kind help and support,

Another win7/64 user here. I normally just run the update as admin and all goes well. For Java 7, the installer just disappears. I have not uninstalled Java 6.
Edit: I'm using the offline installer having d/l the JRE package.
I hesitated to uninstall the older version, not having had to do that in the past, and seeing that others who have uninstalled still had issues.
But I went ahead and uninstalled the old version and the new version installed without a hitch.
