Visual C++ install problem

Hi, I'm trying to play Fallout New Vegas, and when trying to launch it (from Steam), it comes up with a dialogue saying "Performing first time setup... Installing: Microsoft VC Redist Package (step 1 of 1). Then windows installer pops up saying:

"The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available. Insert the 'Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.30729.17 disk and click OK.

The same dialogue pops up when trying to repair or uninstall Visual C++ from an installer. I'm running Windows Home Premium 64 bit.

Any ideas what's causing this?

Thanks for reading

Unfortunately I've tried repairing/uninstalling from that installer, but as I said I get the same dialogue popping up

Any clues anyone? If not, could someone point me in the right direction of a more suitable forum maybe?
Thanks

Aha. And I thought I was the only one having this problem! From what I can tell, only files from before 9/1/2011 have been affected by this problem. HOWEVER, that is also when I began using FixIt to uninstall anything Windows 7 was trying to update before updating it. I used CCleaner to clean my registry, and successfully redirect installers to vc_red.msi in C:\'s root folder.

It's still saying I need the disc whenever I try to uninstall VC 2005/2008/2010, MS SQL 2008, or Silverlight components. It says the location it's currently looking for the disc is "1" but I don't know what that's supposed to mean.

Try this,
1.Install and Run MicrosoftFixIt50747<<please search for download links
2.Download the latest VC 2005/2008 or MS Silverlight and Extract to it's Folders.
3.Copy-paste the Extracted Folder Files to C./User>user>AppData>Local>Temp
4.Open it and install, if it ask you the location of exe files or disk then you have now in this Temp Folders.And all works 100%.
