    Steam Games Crashing

    HELP!

I am using Windows 7 x64 bit edition. Everything works great with XP so I know I'm not having any hardware specific issues, it's definitely a compatibility issue somewhere within windows 7.

When I am playing steam games (counterstrike, team fortress 2).. about 5-10 minutes into the game, it locks up and closes. When it closes it pops up with an error but it closes out too fast to see what it says. I have an nVidia 9600 GT.

    What I've tried:

-Updating my drivers to the windows 7 drivers.
-Using the drivers that windows 7 automatically installs for you.
-Running the games in compatibility mode for XP service pack 2 and administration mode.
    -Reformatted three times.
    -Updated directX.
-The video card is not overheating (tested it).

I really need some help. It's very frustrating and I can't figure out what's going on!

    Thanks for any help.

you might want to install the drivers for your graphics card direct from nvidias site.

If you have a Creative sound card, reinstall the drivers. That happened to me yesterday and Creative was the culprit. I hadn't used Steam for a month and something must've changed, but the sound driver reinstall did the trick.

swarfega - like I said, I already tried that.. I updated to the Windows 7 drivers from nVidia's website but it didn't help..also tried just using the ones wndows7 installs..no help.

Ubi- I do have a creative sound card. I just tried disabling the sound card and tried playing TF2 and it did the same thing. =[ Thanks tho.

    Any other ideas?

OK.. I figured it out. I'm retarded. I took out 2 sticks of ram to see if that would fix it and the ram was like...burning hot. So I stuck a huge fan on blowing directly into my PC and that fixed the issue.. oops.

    Gonna buy a new case.

    Thanks anyway guys.
