PortableApps Platform Pre Release 3 is Awesome!

    PortableApps Platform Pre Release 3

I don't know why its still PR3 because I have not found a single bug, it works flawlessly for me!

PortableApps has always been Awesome, it is one of the Best Portable Apps Launchers available IMO!
    And Its Free and Opensource!

PortableApps has gone through a timely but very nice change to its Platform, it now includes a built in Updater, so you can check for Updates for all of the Apps you downloaded from PortableApps with one click, It also has a new way of helping its users download New Apps without having to go through downloading them with their browser, and installing them one by one, all it takes is 2 clicks to access a list of all of their Portable Apps you find on their site, and you can automatically install all the Apps your interested in all in one and it takes care of the installation process for you. Just click Manage Apps and select "Install a New App" from the context menu, and bam their all at your finger tips.

PortableApps has also changed their Options, now you have a wide array of settings for customizing your platform.

PortableApps can be installed basically anywhere you want it, be it on a USB Stick/Portable HD, an encrypted Container, your Documents Folder or any other folder of your choice, and with the last option listed you can create a shortcut to the "PortableAppsPlatform.exe" to your Taskbar, or your Desktop, Rocketdock, or your Startmenu ect for easy access.

Make Sure that if you Install it to your HD, create a Folder Called PortableApps or whatever you want to call it, so all of the Portable Apps files will be contained to that folder, if you just install to your Documents it will be scattered around with all your other files, and that is a mess.

Please Note that Encrypting your Portable Apps does not mean they will be stealth when you run them on your machine, in order to do this you will need to use some type of Virtualization Software that holds the data in ram wile you use it, or you can run the Apps from their Folder in Sandboxie, (will not work from the PA Menu unless maybe you run the Platform first in Sandboxie? I have not tried) therefore all files modified ect can be erased at the end of your session because they were only a clone inside the sandbox, not even your original Thumbs DB, Reg files, $AppData$, ect will modified when the data is contained in the sandbox. so Sandboxie can make for Stealth, as long as you properly erase the data in the sandbox when you are done.

As you can see in my pick Above, I have Apps not seen on the PortableApps website, I get most of the others from portablefreeware.com, it doesn't really matter where you download a portable App, as long as it is a portable App, these Apps can be installed by copying the folder of the Portable App you just downloaded and extracted to the PortableApps Folder Inside your Portable Apps folder you installed PortableApps to. then click refresh Apps on the platform, or just start your platform, if not already started and your new Apps will appear.

Problems with installing NON PA site Apps?

If it is not working for you this could mean that when you extracted the app, it was contained within 2 folders, the app should be directly in one folder or PA may not detect it.

    Another tip
If you have obsolete files that appear in the apps menu you can always hide them with a right click, and select Hide.

But anyways if you never heard about PortableApps before now you know, and it is all free and Opensource. works like a charm and I have always liked it, Unlike U3.

Have fun and hope you enjoy PortableApps Platform like I do!

PS; Their are other new features I did not List, so if your interested go to the PortableApps site for more Information on other great features and Download!
