Audacity Recording

Is it possible to have audacity begin recording by pressing a specific key? If not, is there a similar way?

It doesn't seem to work for me.

I know that, I'm asking if there is a keystroke to start recording.

perhaps it has to be in focus,ie try clicking anywhere in audacity then try the R key and see if it starts recording , i know that for instance the hotkeys for winamp only work if i click in winamp first . seems a bit poitless if you have to click in the program to use a hotkey. try it and see .also check which version of audacity you have as the link i gave you was for audacity v1.2 .im guessing that whichever version you have the keystroke would be the same.

I'm using 1.3 Beta. It was the only version that supported Windows 7.

As mentioned, if you click anywhere on the Audacity window to bring it into focus and press R, recording should start.
It just worked for me, using 1.3.13.

Oops! I was pressing Ctrl + R The thing is, I want to be able to do it without the window being in focus. If it helps, I'm recording a Let's Play series, and Fraps does terribly recording Mic + In-game sound. Plus I'd rather have another stream separately edit.

You can also set up a timed recording, from Transport.
You don't have to worry about focus.

you could click the audacity icon in the taskbar to bring it into focus without opening the window.
If this is solved for you could you click the tick at the top of the page
