Best free program for DVD burning.

I need too burn some DVD's for a friends wedding from an AVI file that i have exported from Adobe premier, the file is 5.5GB so will need some kind of compression, also i wouldn't mind creating some chapters and a DVD menu if this is possible.

I really want a program that will do this for free without having a god damn watermark after spending ages downloading and installing. If i can't get the menu creation from a totally freeware program then i would be happy to get a program that creates a good quality DVD without a menu.

I also have a MP4 file i was hoping to burn onto DVD, its only 1.4GB.

Have you considered using Windows 7's own DVD maker?

If you have a dual-layer DVD drive and use DVD-R DL discs you wont need to compress your AVI file as these discs have a capacity of 8.5Gb.

DVD Author Plus is totally free, easy to use and works perfectly. It will burn video and data DVDs, backup to ISO, copy DVD to DVD and burn ISO files. You can burn an AVI to a Video DVD that will work on any DVD player. Download here:

I find Imgburn works from XP through W7. Plus it's the same on each flavor of Windows. I don't have to do things differently just because I'm on 7 instead of Vista.

    It burns dual layer fine.

Since you need to compress you might think of picking up some DVD±R DL discs and just burn the output files to them. Using ImgBurn of course.

For good compression in one pass I recommnd AviDemux 2.4.4 from this page:

    AviDemux 2.5.5 - VideoHelp.com Downloads

Don't get 2.5 since the motion detection has been crippled. One pass on 2.5 looks like crap.

If your hme DVD Player supports dual layer disks, all as suggested above should work.
If not, use DVDStyler Portable to generate the Audio & Vidoe TS files, then compress them using DVDShrink. DVDStyler can then be used to burn to a 4.7gb DVD.
