I'm using Windows Live Messenger 2011. I can sign in manually, but it won't sign in automatically at startup or reboot even though I checkmark the box to remember me. Roderunner suggested putting it in compatibility mode, which solved the problem on my Dell XPS 8100, but it didn't solve the problem on my Dell XPS 8300.

I'm not getting an error message

Your previous post had a link to
Signing in to Messenger service failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. Error 81000314”

I'm not getting an error message. I can sign in fine and have no problems with Messenger. The only thing that's not working is for messenger to automatically sign in by itself when the computer starts up or reboots.

I don't know if other software can create this issue. I wouldn't think so, but I don't know enough about it all to be sure. Reason I mention this is because the Dell 8300 has something that came with it called Stage. I don't have that on the other computer. As far as I know, that's the only program that is different between the two machines. As far as hardware, it's a newer Dell, but they are both XPS and were only purchased about a year apart, so I think they are very close to being the same.

it could be that the logon folder that would auto start has a corruption, deleting it and restarting messenger may solve the auto logon problem ,its a small may,
im aware what the title of the page i linked you to is.
however its up to you, i would try it as it wont do any harm and just may solve it.
you did say you'd like it to work.

    Windows Vista and Windows 7:
    a. Go to Start, click on Computer
    b. Browse to the location:
    C:\Users\<Windows logon name>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live\Contacts
    c. Look for the folder which has your email address For example: test@hotmail.com and delete it
Warning! Only delete the folder which has your email address. If you delete other items in the Contacts folder they cannot be recovered

sign in and select start messenger at start upo or whatever the promt is, then reboot and see if it works.

It didn't work. And I see that my Dell 8100 is not working again. I thought we had this fixed with the compatibility change because I rebooted and cold booted yesterday and it had worked. It's almost like it remembered me for a day and then quite remembering me again. So now I'm back to having the issue on both computers.
