for free partition utilities and which OS they work with and what they can do. Chances are there's a Linux boot CD based partition manager that will work provided you don't have an exotic HD setup(such as fake raid)

C:\ is where I keep my OS and programs.
D:\ is where I keep everything else.
All I wanna do is take the free space and add it to D:\

Yeah thats what im doing now. I just wanted to know if there was a way to do it without 3rd party software as ive read people have done it before but no matter.

Im not able to do this in the latest Paragon Partition Manager (v10) which is pretty annoying.
EDIT:
Wow, I am really impressed. I managed to find out about a program called Partition Wizard Home Edition, its totally free and specifically states it supports Windows 7 so I gave it a try and it completed the resize of the partition in about 2 minutes, it supports 32-bit and 64-bit. If anyone would like to use it then I recommend you do.

If you aren't able to do something you should in the Disk Management, it may be an indication of a partition table problem. I tried to make a backup capsule using Paragon Drive Backup 9.0 on my Vista64 PC. It has fake raid. Well, after the crash, it told me I could only shrink my C: partition by about 13 GB when it should have been able to shrink by hundreds of GB. I did a backup and restore with Macrium Reflect 4.2 trial and it fixed my partition table. After than I could shrink C: by over 400 GB if I wanted. So I bought Macrium 64 bit edition. Well worth it.
I would investigate partition table repair methods. It's likely there's a problem there.

The Free space is inside an Extended partition ( Green border).
That is very different from a Primary partition ( Blue border )
Free space is unused space inside a partition.
Unallocated space is unused space not inside a partition.
No partition manager will extend a Primary partition directly into an Extended partition. It would need to delete the Extended partition first.
You need to delete the Extended partition ( the green one) - then it will be Unallocated space.
You will then be able extend Primary partition (D ) to incorporate the Unallocated space.
Most partition managers would want you to do that in two steps.
You could have done that with Disk Management.
I have been using the Partition Wizard for some time. It is good , but lacks the more advanced features of the Paragon - particularly the boot disc.
Btw the Paragon apps. support 7x64 perfectly. I use them for most of my hard disk management .

Check Gparted. Also x64 version and it's free. Best one I know
