software to prevent users to change stuff?

hi there, i'm new to this forum, please have patience,, hehe

so my problem is that there are a lot of people using my computers(pc/laptop) and everytime, something gets changed.. pisses me off,, hehe..

so my question is: is there a software or modification to my computers i need to do to prevent people from changing stuff? i just want them to be able to use the programs on the desktop only, can't delete or open files that i dont want them to open, can open start but with limited accessibility.. is there a way to do this? i often see these changes in computer cafe's but i dont know how to do it myself..

i know that deep freeze handles these kinds of problem, but it's not free.. but is there another way?

    thanks for the help..

If you are an Administrator, you can set up parental controls using the below tutorials.
Parental Controls - Setup and Use
Parental Controls - Allow or Block Specific Programs

Do you have multiple or one Standard User Account for the other people? This might be all you need.

If you need more then off the top of my head 'gpedit.msc' can be used to disable a lot of things.
Never used it myself but I just tired to disable Windows Firewall in control panel using it and it worked but it blocked me (Admin, UAC disabled) so to make changes I guess I would have to open gpedit and re-enable it.

If no one else suggest somthing better you could try playing around with it.

Just make them use a standard user account. They cannot make system wide changes that way. At the end of the day you can just blow away their profile to undo anything they might change.

Either that or let them log on as a guest user. Anything they change on that is lost when they log off.

As kado897 has said above, a Guest account would probably be your best option. You can turn the feature on using the following tutorial.
